Russell Brand is to return to Xfm next month and he’s reuniting with his old friend Noel Gallagher for a special series of shows to mark this year’s Teenage Cancer Trust gigs. The pair are to helm a new programme in the lead up to the week-long set of dates for the charity – the first time in seven years that they’ve worked with producer Matt Morgan and poet Mr Gee. Noel told Xfm presenter and Sun columnist Gordon Smart: “Xfm asked me if I wanted to do my own radio show leading up to this year’s TCT concerts. I said, I have a better idea. Why don’t we resurrect whats-his-name’s career?

That hairy skinny-legged yogameister, Rustle Brand? Last seen shaming the nation at them Olympics “It’ll be great to remind people how colossal me, Matt Morgan and Mr Gee were on that bloody show before ‘Arthur’ got us all the sack. Tune in and see if I’m wrong.” Russell told Gordon: “I miss radio. It was lovely when we did the show.

It’ll be great to get the old team back together.” This was the show that landed Jonathan Ross and Brand in trouble over the whole Andrew Sachs “Sachsgate” affair. Global Radio & Real & Smooth Ltd (RSL) note that the Competition Commission (CC) will soon publish Global Radio’s response to the CC’s provisional findings into this transaction (as per the CC’s standard processes).

As per the detail contained within the response, Global Radio believes that there is irrefutable evidence that this acquisition will not lead to a Substantial Lessening of Competition (SLC) in any of the regions identified by the CC, and moreover that there are significant benefits to advertisers and listeners which will result from the acquisition. • Global Radio has made a significant commitment to providing listeners in Scotland and Wales with brand new additional news programming in Scotland and Wales, the like of which is unique within commercial radio. • Advertisers will benefit from the acquisition through the ease of trading and accompanying pricing achievable through trading with an enlarged Global Radio. • Global has engaged leading third party economists to conduct a detailed assessment of each of the seven regions identified by the CC where there is a perceived risk of a SLC.

Whilst not accepting that an SLC actually exists, Global has engaged with the CC’s standard process which requires provisional remedies to be proposed at this time, should they be required at the conclusion of the process. On this basis Global has proposed the divestment of three radio stations, RSL’s Real XS in Manchester & Scotland & Global Radio’s Gold East Midlands. It is important to note that Global Radio’s response published today is not a response to the CC’s final report, but is a response only to the CC’s provisional findings. (The CC’s final report is due on or by 2013.) Global Radio look forward to further dialogue with the CC in order to demonstrate the strength of these arguments and working to achieve the appropriate outcome.

The CC has identified the areas of Scotland, North East, Yorkshire, Manchester / North West, East Midlands and Wales as areas where divestments are required, due to perceived substantial lessening of competition. Global will, however, be able to license its brands to the purchasers of any licenses it has to sell. The Prime Minister spent more than half an hour answering questions from an audience of thirty listeners and Globalers on topics ranging from cyber-bullying, apprenticeships, the bedroom tax, child care costs and his legacy through to his all-time favourite album and his musical guilty pleasure! After the Q&A, the Prime Minister said: “I really enjoyed it. There were lots of great questions and a really big variety – internet, musical taste and everything else.” Ashley Tabor, our Founder and Executive President said: “We are delighted that the Prime Minister chose Global for this unique listener event at our Capital FM and Xfm Manchester studios. We look forward to hosting further Q&As with our listeners and the Prime Minister at Global stations across the UK in the future.” •. Today we have unveiled Capital XTRA, the first commercial urban dance music station to be broadcast nationally across the UK. Capital XTRA will be the first commercial station playing urban dance music across the UK, available nationally on DAB digital radio, and on 107.1 and 96.9 FM in London. “Kojo & Jade with XTRA in the morning” officially launch the new station this Monday (7th October) at 6am. Carrying the strapline, DANCE.URBAN.UK., the new station will play new music and break urban dance acts first. Illustrating our commitment to Capital XTRA, we have made a huge investment of over £1 million in the station, covering everything from new signings, including big name presenters Tim Westwood, Craig David and Avicii and up-and-coming talent, through to new state of the art studios at our headquarters in London’s Leicester Square, as well as national transmission on DAB Digital radio.

Ashley Tabor, founder and executive president here at Global said: “The launch of Capital XTRA is a great moment for listeners, for commercial radio, for the DAB platform and for our team here at Global. People right across the UK will now get to enjoy a truly national station in Capital XTRA – the only commercial station to play urban dance music nationwide. We’re taking the best presenters and shows and building on that by adding even more new talent to the line up and we believe Capital XTRA has a very bright future.” Capital XTRA will supersede Choice FM, the company’s current urban music platform which is currently limited to London, and will build on the heritage of the station. A number of the most popular presenters and shows will migrate to Capital XTRA, where they’ll now broadcast to a national audience. Charity appeals, partnerships and events will continue under the Capital XTRA banner. Capital XTRA will have a new website,, and a new mobile and tablet app.

To spread the Capital XTRA message, we are rolling out an integrated marketing campaign starting today. On 8th October 1973, Commercial Radio was born with the words “Welcome to LBC. It’s six o’clock”. Forty years later, London’s Biggest Conversation is more popular than ever. A number of original presenters are making an appearance on our station, LBC 97.3, today to mark the 40th anniversary of the London talk station. Douglas Cameron, who co-hosted The AM Programme in the 1970s, will be reading the 8am news bulletin, while Channel 4 News presenter Jon Snow will be reviewing the papers with Nick Ferrari. Later at 9pm, LBC 97.3 will broadcast a special hour-long programme called LBC @ 40.

Hosted by Clive Bull, it will look back at how the station has covered the biggest stories and events in London and beyond, from the Falklands War, the Iranian Embassy Siege and the Poll Tax riots through to the 7/7 London bombings, the 2011 Royal Wedding and last year’s Olympic Games. It will feature exclusive interviews with some of the former presenters including Angela Rippon, host of LBC Newstalk from 1990 to 1994, Brian Hayes, presenter of the morning show from 1976 to 1990, and Dickie Arbiter, Special Events Presenter. Richard Park, our Radio’s Director of Broadcasting here at Global, said: “When LBC launched on the 8th October 1973, it transformed the radio landscape in this country forever. Forty years on, the station remains a true pioneer in UK broadcasting and we are proud to celebrate this landmark birthday as we look forward to serving London for the next forty years.” Check out the LBC 40th Birthday celebrations. Our charity arm here at Global, has led a partnership of the UK’s biggest music and entertainment brands and major youth sector players to secure a £3.85 million Big Lottery Fund contract that will bring positive changes to the lives of millions of young people across the UK. Global Charities has brought together UK Youth, the BPI (which runs The BRIT Awards) and a large range of further supporting organisations from across both the music and charity sectors. Together they will deliver a pioneering, nationwide music-based youth engagement campaign encompassing roadshows, workshops, training and industry placements to help transform the lives of young people in some of the most deprived areas across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

We have a long standing commitment to our younger listeners and we will use the unparalleled reach of our Capital FM network and all its media and marketing expertise, to reach out to our listeners and engage them with the life changing opportunities this initiative offers. Stephen Miron, our Chief Executive, said: “Here at Global, we are obsessed with radio, music and entertainment – this is our world. We believe that music can be a catalyst for change, and we are committed to supporting the Big Lottery Fund music project, in a big way. By providing access to Capital FM, the UK’s number one hit music station, we are well placed to inspire young people to follow their dreams.” •.

It’s been a very successful Rajar for us here at Global. A record Rajar card means that we have achieved our highest ever reach this quarter, with over 20.4 million* people now tuning into one of our brands each week.

What’s more, our hugely successful Capital Network is now the UK’s number one commercial radio brand, with 7.7 million listeners. And, in it’s 40th year, LBC 97.3 now reaches 1.3 million listeners nationally and 1.1 million listeners in London. This is its highest ever. *Source: RAJAR / Ipsos – MORI / RSMB, period ending September 2013. We are disappointed at the Competition Appeal Tribunal’s decision to reject our appeal of a Competition Commission ruling that we must divest radio stations in seven areas of the UK following last year’s purchase of the Real and Smooth networks. A Global spokesperson said: “Obviously this is a disappointing outcome. We share the concerns of many within our industry, who believe the basis on which the Competition Commission formed their decision to be outdated.” We will now consider the decision further.

Today we have launched our first ad campaign for Capital XTRA, the first commercial urban dance music station to be broadcast nationally across the UK. The ad, which will run for four weeksduring November and December on video on demand, follows a young music lover on a journey to discover new music in a secret underground location. The creative from WCRS illustrates the station’s remit to find music trends first in order to help its audience to stay ahead of the curve. Capital XTRA plays urban dance music and breaks new and emerging talent. With an impressive roster of DJs including Avicii, Tim Westwood, Hardwell, DJ Fresh and Jaguar Skills, our station is well equipped to break into this unexplored territory. Giles Pearman, Group Marketing Director here at Global said: “Capital XTRA is the UK’s first national commercial urban dance station. This campaign reinforces what the brand is all about, helping our listeners find new music first with Capital XTRA.” Our station is housed in new state of the art studios at our headquarters in London’s Leicester Square, as well as national transmission on DAB Digital radio.

Capital XTRA is the first commercial station playing urban dance music across the UK, available nationally on DAB digital radio, and on 107.1 and 96.9 FM in London. Take a look at the ad. Marvin Humes to host weekday evenings on Capital and The Vodafone Big Top 40 every Sunday. A new voice will be breaking the news of the number one single throughout 2014 as Marvin Humes, already one of Capital FM’s most popular presenters, takes over as host of the Vodafone Big Top 40 every Sunday from the New Year. Today we have also announced that Marvin will present the weekday evening show on 95-106 Capital FM. Marvin joined our station, the UK’s No. 1 Hit Music Station, in March as host of a Friday night mix show, and he proved such a hit with Capital FM fans that two months later, he landed another show on Saturday nights.

From Monday, January 6, Marvin will present weekday evenings from 7-10pm, as well as taking over the Vodafone Big Top 40, the UK’s most popular chart show, reaching 2.7 million people each week*. His debut on the Vodafone Big Top 40, the only real-time chart show in the UK, will be in January. The news comes as the multi-million selling JLS continue their ‘Goodbye’ UK arena tour. Pandora, who currently hosts weekday evenings, will move to present the 10am to 1pm slot on Capital, taking over from Rich Clarke who will leave the station at the end of the year. Marvin Humes said: “I’m over the moon to be a part of the exciting 2014 line up on Capital. What an amazing opportunity. I remember being on The Big Top 40 as an artist and to now be presenting the show is a dream come true.” Our Group Executive Director and Director of Broadcasting Richard Park said: “Since joining us in May, Marvin immediately connected with our audience and quickly established himself as a key presenter for Capital.

This move clearly positions him at the frontline of the station’s plan for 2014.” •. Ashley Tabor, Founder & Executive President here at Global, said: “This is the biggest boost to local DAB coverage in many years, and a great result for listeners all over the country.

We are delighted that an agreement has been reached to share the costs of new local DAB transmitters between the BBC, Government, Arqiva, Bauer and Global so that local DAB coverage will finally match FM coverage for local commercial radio stations. We want all our local stations, that are part of the Capital and Heart networks, to enjoy good coverage on DAB, and this will soon be a reality as a result of this agreement. The real winner here is the listener. “We look forward to contributing to the Ofcom review on radio licence regulation which we hope will result in the rules being updated so that they are fit for radio’s digital future.” •.

Today we are announcing the creation of a new Global Academy, a full University Technical College (UTC) that will create an educational environment to train young people for jobs in the digital broadcasting industry. The Department for Education has given the go-ahead for this ground-breaking project, which will open in London in September 2015, and will be in partnership with the University of Arts London. Since 2008, we have offered a formal route to work experience and internships, and to date 450 work experience and internship placements have been secured. Individuals can apply through our website for positions at all our 21 broadcast centres. The Global Academy, the digital broadcasting industry’s first University Technical College (UTC), builds on this work, and will provide education for 14-18 year olds studying GCSEs, A-Levels, BTECs and the English Baccalaureate. However, unlike traditional schools and sixth form colleges, the Global Academy will also provide specialist vocational training modules leading to specific qualifications in creative, technical and digital media as well as entrepreneurship.

The curriculum will have a strong focus on the technical skills needed to get a job in today’s digital broadcasting industry. Ashley Tabor, our founder & executive president here at Global, believes the shortage of young people with the right skills to work in the industry highlights a need for such a facility, the first of its kind. “I wish there had been a school like this when I was studying,” he said. Tabor conceived and developed the new Global Academy over the past two years. “Since founding Global,” he said, “I’ve been struck by the shortage of young people coming into the industry with the right practical skills or broad enough skills. As emerging technologies continue to change the way we do business, that skills gap will only get bigger. With this new Global Academy, we want to lead the way in developing and nurturing talent and securing jobs for young people from all backgrounds.

We will bring talented young people, some of whom wouldn’t otherwise get the chance to gain these skills, into the exciting digital broadcasting industry and help ensure the industry continues to thrive while simultaneously equipping these students with the real skills they need to succeed in today’s industry,” said Tabor. Some students will go on to higher education and further education and apprenticeships, and others straight into jobs.

By year two, the Global Academy will have roughly 800 students. The Department for Education will fund the Global Academy, ensuring it is accessible to talented and driven students from all social and economic backgrounds. Global will lead the academy, creating a culture of entrepreneurialism and ensuring the correct modules are offered, as well as contributing resource and expertise from our teams to spend time with students. Lord Baker, who came up with the idea of University Technical Colleges in 2007, said: “Today’s announcement shows continued support and commitment from the Government to increase the size and impact of the UTC movement. There will now be six UTCs. I am delighted that UTCs enjoy all-party support and that the Coalition continue to back them. I am very pleased to note that there will be a further application round later this year with a closing date of 9 May 2014 for UTCs to open in 2016.” We will also draw on expertise from industry partners, including Universal Music Group, Decca Records, Independent Radio News, WCRS, PHD, RCS, Ooyala, Arqiva, Cisco, Clifford Chance, and Slaughter & May.

Industry bodies, the Radio Advertising Bureau, the Radio Centre and the BPI, are also supporting the initiative in order to make the training relevant to a broad range of workplace environments. Karen Blackett, CEO, MediaCom UK, said: “It’s inspiring to see Global take the lead in setting up a university technical college for the digital broadcasting industry. It’s critical that we equip the next generation with the skills needed to get jobs in the industry when they finish their education. The creation of the Global Academy chimes with our beliefs at MediaCom UK and we are keen to support the development of the curriculum, and offer work placements to students where possible.” The suite of vocational specific qualification modules developed by Global and its partners will be accredited by University of the Arts London. The Global Academy will be subject to Ofsted inspection and will be part of the standard Department for Education league tables. LBC, London’s favourite talk radio station, is to go national from February 11th, becoming Britain’s first and only commercial news talk radio station to be broadcast across the UK.

As LBC’s parent company, we have today taken a significant and bold step, investing in news talk radio and creating the UK’s first ever national full news talk commercial radio station. Going live at 7am on Tuesday 11th February, the launch of the new national LBC marks a sea change in the British commercial radio landscape. For the first time, the UK public have a national forum to discuss and debate the news of the day in real time on a commercial radio station, in high quality on DAB.

LBC is uniquely driven by its audience, the public, making it distinct from other talk radio services. LBC will be almost exclusively news talk, tackling the big issues of the day with intelligent, informed conversation aimed at the voting public, not politicians. That’s a first for radio in the UK. LBC addresses the issues that matter to people across London with informed, incisive and entertaining dialogue between presenters and listeners, and more news bulletins than any other talk radio station.

In the past year, LBC has added ‘appointment to listen’ programmes such as the weekly ‘Call Clegg’ and the ever popular and entertaining ‘Ask Boris’. LBC has been enjoying huge growth in recent years. It recorded its highest ever audience at 1.3 million listeners at the last RAJARs (in October 2013) with Nick Ferrari’s Breakfast Show gaining almost 100,000 listeners in a year, representing the greatest share of listeners of any breakfast show in London. Other presenters include Nick Ferrari, James O’Brien, Julia Hartley-Brewer, Iain Dale and Larry Lamb. From February 11th listeners right across the UK will have the opportunity, for the first time, to hear the station on DAB digital radio. Listeners can challenge senior members of Government and people in authority live on air. LBC gives listeners a national forum to drive debate, express opinions and share stories.

Our award-winning presenters are known for their incisive commentary. LBC is the world’s only media outlet to have Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg as a host, making history with his weekly programme ‘Call Clegg’. The programme is also available to watch live online. LBC’s national DAB digital coverage will be in addition to its existing London FM coverage on 97.3 and its online and mobile coverage worldwide. LBC was the first commercial radio station launched in the UK in 1973, at the time, standing for ‘London Broadcasting Company.’ The station became ‘London’s Biggest Conversation’ in 2007 and on February 11th 2014, will change its meaning for only the third time in its history, as LBC becomes ‘Leading Britain’s Conversation’. Founder & executive president of Global, Ashley Tabor, said: “LBC has been a pioneer since it began broadcasting as the first commercial radio station 40 years ago, challenging traditional formats and producing innovative shows.

Under Global’s ownership last year we introduced a first in UK radio with the Deputy Prime Minister hosting his own weekly show on LBC, ‘Call Clegg,’ giving LBC’s listeners, the public, a chance to hold a senior political figure directly to account for the first time every week. “From February 11th 2014 Global is investing further in digital radio, and in speech radio, to create the UK’s first national commercial news talk radio station, giving listeners across the whole of the UK a voice and a forum to engage in the issues that matter to them. I’m incredibly proud to bring the winning LBC formula to listeners across the UK and for Global to lead the way in the development of UK media brands.” •.

Global Publishing has announced their latest signing, The Script. The deal with The Script follows a spate of high profile and diverse signings at the end of 2013, as Global Publishing enters a new phase in its growth. With more than 20 million record sales, two UK number one albums and five platinum US singles under their belts, The Script’s popularity continues to grow both in the UK and internationally. The 2013 hit “Hall of Fame” was a number one single worldwide, selling five million copies and generating more than 100 million YouTube views and Spotify plays – their biggest success to date.

Global Publishing managing director Paul Adam said: “When we heard that The Script’s publishing rights would become available, we decided to leave no stone unturned to sign the group. We’re huge fans and Danny and Mark are both incredible songwriters.

We’re absolutely delighted they have decided to join the Global family.” Global Founder & Executive President Ashley Tabor said: “I’m a big fan of The Script and Danny & Mark’s songwriting is top class. We’re very excited and honoured to have them as part of the Global family.” The Script’s Danny O’Donoghue and Mark Sheehan said: “Ashley and Paul flew to Amsterdam to see the first night of our tour and we knew instantly that Global was the publisher for us. Ashley is incredibly forward thinking and focused and we are so excited to be working with him.

Paul is one of the best A&R guys in the business and having his input is fantastic.” Global Publishing also signed The Vamps, Jungle, Say Lou Lou and Elyar Fox at the end of 2013. British group The Vamps, who are hotly tipped to become the biggest pop act of 2014, scored a number two hit with their first single “Can We Dance”, and will release their second single “Wild Heart” on January 18. Jungle has been described as one of the most exciting bands to emerge from Britain in 2013. Their video for “Platoon” has now topped 600,000 views on Vimeo. Say Lou Lou are a twin sister musical duo from Australia. Their music, described as Dream Pop, recently earned them a place on the BBC Sound of 2014 longlist.

Eighteen-year-old pop sensation Elyar Fox first sparked attention on the music scene at the age of 16 when he spent his gap year hustling for a record deal. Since signing to Global Talent and Global Publishing, his YouTube channel views have reached tens of millions and his debut single “Do It All Over Again” is set to reach the top five this week. The new signings join a boutique roster of songwriters at Global Publishing including Corinne Bailey Rae, Ellie Goulding, Lawson and The Vaccines. Here’s our Rajar Q4 13 Update: 95.8 Capital FM is now London’s No. 1 Commercial Radio station, winning on reach, share and hours with 2.2 million listeners. Capital London’s Breakfast show with Dave Berry and Lisa Snowdon retains its spot as London’s most popular commercial breakfast show with 1.2m listeners.

The Capital brand (Capital and Capital XTRA) now reaches an incredible 8 million listeners with 47.7m total hours. LBC’s national reach remains very strong at nearly 1.3 million listeners. Classic FM has had a fantastic RAJAR, adding 313,000 listeners last quarter, and now reaches 5.6 million listeners. Heart is the second largest commercial brand in the UK, second only to Capital, with 7.3m listeners across the country. *This includes the Smooth stations (Smooth London, Smooth West Midlands and Smooth out of area) under Global ownership during RAJAR period ending 15th December 2013.

Source: RAJAR / Ipsos-MORI / RSMB, period ending 15th December 2013. All stations and group results are reported on their specified reporting period and TSA. We have agreed a deal to divest radio stations in the regions required by the Competition Commission to Communicorp. Communicorp, the leading radio company in Ireland, was the successful acquirer in a competitive sales process and has been approved by the Competition Commission as a suitable owner of the divested stations.

The stations that we have sold to Communicorp are Capital South Wales, Capital Scotland, Smooth East Midlands, Smooth North West, Smooth North East. Real North Wales, Real Yorkshire and Real XS Manchester. All stations required to be divested by the CC are being sold in one deal. The stations have been sold on a brand licence model which means that Global has licensed its award winning brands to Communicorp.

As a result of the deal all existing Real stations will be re-launched as Heart, reinforcing Heart’s position as the largest commercial radio brand in the UK with over 9.3 million listeners a week. In addition the Capital network will be enhanced with a new station in North Wales, taking Capital’s weekly reach to 7.7million, and the overall Capital brand’s weekly reach to 8.2million listeners (including Capital Xtra). Smooth will grow to become the fourth largest radio brand in the UK, behind Capital, Heart and Classic FM, with 4.3 million listeners a week. Stephen Miron, Group CEO here at Global said: “We are delighted to have agreed this deal with Communicorp so quickly. Most importantly the conclusion of this deal solidifies Global’s position as the number one commercial radio company in the UK, and enables our brands to continue to grow, extending their reach into all parts of the UK, making Global’s offering truly national.

The future launch of Heart in five new regions, Smooth in many new regions and a new Capital in North Wales is particularly exciting and enables us to continue our strategy of ‘national brands delivered locally.’ This is great news for listeners and advertisers” Gervaise Slowey, Communicorp’s Chief Executive commented: “We are delighted to add these popular radio stations to the Group’s stable. It’s clear that the UK advertising market is buoyant, and this move will make us the fourth largest commercial radio group in the UK from a standing start. The brand licence agreement that we have in place with Global for Heart, Capital and Smooth will allow us to combine the clout of a national brand with local presence, and we feel this model will provide the best of both worlds to our listeners and our customers.” In addition to the brand licence agreement, Commuincorp has agreed for Global to represent their branded stations to national advertising agencies and advertisers and will also be acquiring a number of other services from Global. Communicorp local sales teams will sell the stations to local advertisers, in competition with Global at the local level. Full completion of this deal is subject to Irish Competition Authority review as a media merger, which the parties hope will be undertaken within the next eight weeks, after which the deal will fully complete. In the past year, we have grown our brands reach to their highest ever, and once this deal completes, our brands will reach more than 24million listeners.

By Royal Appointment: The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall celebrate British Radio with a visit to Global. In a celebration of British Radio, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall visited us here at Global, the UK’s leading music and entertainment company, on the day that our pioneering news talk radio station LBC went national. The pair were met by Global’s founder & executive president Ashley Tabor, Group CEO Stephen Miron, and Chairman Lord Allen, before taking a tour of some of the UK’s most successful commercial radio stations including LBC, Classic FM and Heart.

Classic FM presenter John Suchet commented after the visit: “Radio is such a powerful and wonderful way to engage an audience. Classic FM now has more than 5.6 million listeners who love what we do each week. The Prince was really interested to see how we work and asked a lot of questions about how we select the music. It was lovely to hear how passionate and knowledgeable The Prince is about composers such as Sir Hubert Parry and Patrick Hawes.” After learning how some of Britain’s favourite radio shows are put together, the final stop on the tour was to meet some of the famous voices that keep more than 20 million people entertained each week. These included Capital London Breakfast hosts Dave Berry and Lisa Snowdon, Classic FM’s Aled Jones and Myleene Klass, and Jamie Theakston and Emma Bunton, who host London’s Heart Breakfast.

Emma Bunton added: “It was great to welcome The Prince and Duchess to the home of Heart Breakfast today. I hear that Charles had a lot of fun in the studiosperhaps he could stand in for Jamie when he’s on holiday – I’m sure he’d be a natural!” Global’s founder & executive president, Ashley Tabor said: “This is a fantastic day for Global and for British Radio; I’m extremely proud that The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall chose to visit Global at a time of significant growth and investment for our stations and on the very same day that we launched LBC nationally.

A truly historic day for all of us at Global.” •. Kate Garraway, Andrew Castle and Myleene Klass join Tina Hobley and other Smooth presenters as the station re-launches and prepares to extend its reach, becoming the UK’s fourth largest commercial radio network. Wednesday 26th March, 7pm – With Nick Clegg and Nigel Farage LBC, Britain’s only national commercial news talk radio station, will host the first leaders’ debate on Britain’s future in Europe.

On Wednesday 26th March at 7pm, the Deputy Prime Minister and leader of the Liberal Democrats, Nick Clegg, will go head-to-head with UK Independence Party leader, Nigel Farage, in a live hour-long programme to be broadcast across the UK on LBC and on lbc.co.uk. The LBC Leaders’ Debate will be hosted by the station’s breakfast presenter Nick Ferrari in front of a live studio audience in London. The announcement comes just weeks after LBC launched as a national station. The Deputy Prime Minister and leader of the Liberal Democrats, Nick Clegg, said: “I challenged Nigel Farage to a debate because I wanted the British people to see that there is a very real choice at the upcoming European elections: between the Liberal Democrats as the party of IN and UKIP as the party of OUT. I am delighted that it has been confirmed that this debate will now definitely happen.

I’m relishing the prospect of talking about how the Liberal Democrats are fighting to keep Britain IN Europe to protect British jobs while UKIP want to yank us OUT and threaten our recovery. I hope the voters will enjoy what I am sure will be a lively contest.” UK Independence Party leader, Nigel Farage, said: “For the first time in 39 years, the British people will hear a proper, open debate on the UK’s membership of the European Union. For too long the arguments have been spun or concealed while the UK has walked blindly towards a situation where now 75 per cent of our laws are made in Brussels by unaccountable Eurocrats. Nobody in Britain has ever voted to be part of anything other than a trading bloc. I am going to show the British people that not only will we survive outside the EU, we will thrive.

It’s time to leave the undemocratic and failing European Union and embrace the world.” Global’s Director of Broadcasting Richard Park said: “It was on his LBC show that the Deputy Prime Minister challenged Nigel Farage to a live debate on Europe, so we are proud that both leaders have chosen LBC as the first national broadcaster to host this landmark occasion in UK politics. LBC stands for Leading Britain’s Conversation, and this event illustrates how the station is at the cutting edge of national debate.” LBC broadcasts across the UK on DAB digital radio, at lbc.co.uk, on the app and on 97.3 FM in London. LBC, Britain’s only national commercial news talk radio station, has announced two new stellar weekend breakfast shows, as part of Global’s investment in the national talk station. Starting on 23rd March at 8am, every Sunday, Kay will team up with The Sun’s Managing Editor Stig Abell as they tackle the major stories of the day and interview the biggest names in politics, business, culture and entertainment. Kay is the longest-serving news presenter on British television and currently hosts Sky News every weekday afternoon. ‘Leading Britain’s Conversation’ on a Saturday morning will be the Daily Mail’s Consultant Editor and columnist Andrew Pierce, who will host a new three-hour Saturday breakfast show from 7am, starting on 22nd March.

Kay Burley said: “I’m delighted to be joining LBC. The timing is just right with an election coming up next year – we’ll be putting politicians through their paces, and discussing the issues that matter to our listeners. I can’t wait for Stig and I to get started.” Global Radio’s Director of Broadcasting Richard Park said: “Kay Burley is one of the UK’s leading news broadcasters. Her skill of holding politicians and leading authority figures to account will make Sunday mornings a must-listen around the country on LBC.” Current host Andrew Castle moves to a new weekday breakfast show on LBC’s sister station, Smooth Radio, part of the Global family of radio stations, from Monday 24th March. The groundbreaking new Vodafone Big Top 40 will take into account streaming, YouTube And social media in addition to downloads and radio airplay Five years ago, we launched the Vodafone Big Top 40 and pioneered the ‘real time’ music chart format. The countdown combined both downloads and radio airplay giving a far more accurate and up to date chart than ever before. It was an immediate hit with listeners, and the Vodafone Big Top 40 is the most listened to chart every Sunday with twice as many listeners as its competitor.

GLOBAL OFFERS CREATIVE POP UP SHOP AT THE EDINBURGH FRINGE FESTIVAL From August 17-22, our creative team will travel to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the largest arts festival in the world, to launch the inaugural Open Studio Sessions. For one week, our creative team will establish a pop up studio and creative hub giving brands and agencies access to the best vocal talents from the festival. For creative agencies, they offer a chance to address a difficult brief, or a demonstration of how best to bring the comedy or a new interpretation to a radio script. For emerging talent, the sessions will open up commercial opportunities and give them a platform to showcase their skills. We will facilitate this by bringing together some of the best talent the festival has to offer, teaming them up with some of the most innovative agencies around, and producing a demo or radio scamps free of charge.

The match will take place on Thursday 9 October, the day after Clegg delivers his speech at the final Liberal Democrat Autumn Conference ahead of the General Election.

LBC listeners will be able to bid for the opportunity to play Clegg and Castle in a no holds barred doubles match. The auction will run until Monday (6 October).

Listeners can register their bids online at LBC.co.uk until 07.00 on Monday when the auction will cross to the LBC studio where Nick Ferrari will play auctioneer, announcing the lucky winner before 10.00. Clegg has often spoken of his passion for tennis, and he will be looking to prove his sporting prowess and, most importantly, raise money for Global’s Make Some Noise, when he takes to the court. Clegg said: “I am delighted to be taking part in Global’s Make Some Noise, and I hope the winning listener is prepared to face my somewhat erratic serve.” Castle added: “I have met Nick Clegg in a number of different settings but this will be the first time we meet on a tennis court. I hope his tennis is as good as I’ve heard and he doesn’t let the side down. This is a great way for us to raise money for Global’s Make Some Noise.” James Rea, managing editor of LBC, said: “We are used to hearing Nick Clegg take on callers in his weekly Call Clegg show. We are looking forward to seeing how he fares playing alongside Andrew Castle, with the listeners in opposition.

We’re delighted the Deputy Prime Minister has pledged his time, and put his sporting reputation on the line, to raise money for Global’s Make Some Noise.” The proceeds from the auction will go to Global’s Make Some Noise. The money will support projects that help children and young people affected by illness, disability, bereavement or lack of opportunity, across the country.

Great news for us today, as Capital remains London’s number one commercial station. Plus, Dave Berry and Lisa Snowdon continue to lead at breakfast. Heart remains the UK’s favourite commercial radio brand, with a reach of 9.1m and an increase in share across the UK this quarter. All stations which joined the Heart family earlier this year, across the North East, North West, Yorkshire and Scotland, have seen phenomenal increases across all measures – reach, share and hours. Smooth has added even more listeners and hits an all time high, with 4.7 million listeners tuning in every week. Mission Impossible Rogue Nationin Hindi Wapin.

More listeners continue to tune in to Global brands than any other, with over 23 million people listening to a Global station every week. Ashley Tabor, founder & executive president here at Global, said: “Global is once again celebrating another great RAJAR quarter.

I’m extremely proud that Capital has extended its lead in the highly competitive London market, especially making gains in market share. Once more Dave Berry & Lisa Snowdon are the clear winners at breakfast, striding ahead of their competitors. “This is proving to be a fantastic year for Global, with more listeners tuning into our brands than any other, and that is testament to the hard work and dedication of every single Globaler working across all our brands.” Richard Park, group executive director & director of broadcasting at Global, said: “This is a great set of RAJAR results in what has been an incredible year for Global.

I am particularly pleased with the continued growth and success of Heart which cements its position as the UK’s most popular commercial network. Every new Heart station we launched in May enjoyed an increase in reach, share and hours, proving the ongoing popularity of the brand with our listeners.” RAJAR / Ipsos-MORI / RSMB, period ending 14 September 2014. Yesterday evening (Thursday), Global, the media and entertainment group, held the inaugural Global’s Make Some Noise Night.

The mighty Take That gave their first performance as a three-piece at the star-studded evening. Held at Supernova in London, Global’s Make Some Noise Night raised more than £500,000 to help disadvantaged children and young people across the UK, to add to the £1.1 million that was raised on Global’s Make Some Noise day in October. On October 9th all Global’s brands – Capital, Capital XTRA, Heart, Classic FM, LBC, XFM, Smooth and Gold – united for one very special day of fundraising activity. The money raised tonight (Thursday) takes the total raised by Global’s Make Some Noise to a staggering £1.6 million, which will transform young lives across the UK. The exceptional Kaiser Chiefs, internationally acclaimed mezzo-soprano Katherine Jenkins OBE and the incredibly talented Ella Henderson also performed at Supernova on London’s Embankment. Many of our presenters lent their support on the night including Capital’s Dave Berry and Lisa Snowdon, Heart London’s Jamie Theakston and Emma Bunton, Nick Ferrarri from LBC, Smooth Radio’s Kate Garraway, Jenni Falconer from Heart, Myleene Klass from Classic FM and Smooth Radio, Tim Westwood from Capital XTRA and Marvin Humes from Capital and The Vodafone Big Top 40.

Spectacular auction items were snapped up including a Range Rover, tickets to the BAFTA Awards, a luxury five star holiday at the exclusive Sandy Lane resort in Barbados, VIP access to Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball, and tickets to some of the biggest sporting events including the 2015 Wimbledon Men’s Final and the Rugby World Cup. One of the beneficiaries of Global’s Make Some Noise Night will be Child Bereavement UK, who were represented by Victoria Milligan.

Victoria appeared along with her family, and spoke movingly and passionately about how incredible the charity has been in helping her family through their tragedy. Victoria Milligan said: “When we lost my husband and daughter, my whole family were devastated and I didn’t think there was any way through the grief. Child Bereavement UK helped us begin to come to terms with our loss and continue to be of enormous support to my children as we begin to rebuild our lives. The money raised at Global’s Make Some Noise Night will help Child Bereavement UK support many more families who need their help, so on their behalf I’d like to thank you for your generosity.” Stephen Miron, Group CEO here at Global, said: “This has been a wonderful evening and I would like to thank all our friends who have given so generously tonight as well as the Global team that made it all possible. The money raised will, quite simply, change young lives across the UK.

Our sincere and huge thanks go to Take That who were just sensational in their first performance as a three-piece. I would also like to thank the Kaiser Chiefs, Katherine Jenkins and Ella Henderson who were all incredible and helped to make our first Global’s Make Some Noise Night a huge success.” The first Global’s Make Some Noise charity appeal took place on 9th October and raised more than £1.1 million as Global’s eight brands united behind one cause. One hundred per cent of the money raised will go to Global’s Make Some Noise, which supports projects across the UK that help children and young people affected by illness, disability, bereavement or lack of opportunity, across the country. Global, the media & entertainment group, has today (Wednesday) announced it will take significant capacity on the DAB digital radio D1 national multiplex, launching a host of new national digital stations over the next year.

Global will introduce brand new stations ‘Smooth Extra’ on 27 December 2014, ‘Heart Extra’ in the new year and other stations yet to be announced. In the past year, Global has launched Capital XTRA and LBC on D1, alongside its existing Classic FM service. The new deal with D1 sees Global take significant capacity nationally on D1, cementing its brand led strategy and increasing its national digital services to five, with more to come. Global has also reaffirmed its commitment to investing in local DAB – the group is making a heavyweight investment in the build-out of the local DAB transmission network, adding coverage for its core brands, Heart, Capital and Smooth. This is part of the joint commitment to fund local DAB coverage, announced by Ed Vaizey, Minister for Culture and the Digital Economy, in 2012.

Ashley Tabor, founder & executive president of Global, said: “Now is a really exciting time as DAB digital radio gathers pace. Global is committing significant investment in the D1 digital platform; the only national commercial DAB multiplex with near true national coverage. We’re launching new digital only stations, all of which are brand extensions, and thus extending some of our most loved brands nationally on digital radio.” He continued: “We’re also continuing to invest heavily in local DAB coverage, adding coverage for our core brands, Heart, Capital and Smooth.

We want all our listeners to be able to enjoy their local stations on DAB as well as our national ones.” Finally, Global also continues to innovate, leading the industry with the new DAB “service following” initiative. This will facilitate seamless listening as people drive between local multiplexes, without a break in service and without drivers having to manually retune from one station or multiplex, to another. Service following is currently in final testing and launches on the vast majority of local DAB multiplexes in early 2015. Our station, LBC, has announced that the award-winning broadcaster Shelagh Fogarty is joining our national news talk radio station next year. Fogarty will present LBC’s weekday afternoon programme between 1pm and 4pm starting on Monday 5th January. She joins the station from the BBC where she was a presenter on Five Live for fifteen years, including anchoring the breakfast show.

Shelagh Fogarty said: “I can’t wait to start. The opportunity to present a daily news show on LBC was too attractive an offer to pass up, especially as we head into a general election year.

The station is also offering me a chance to exercise some different journalistic muscles too. As well as daily news, I plan to focus on some passion projects of my own and give them some real attention and airtime. For those, I’ll be talking to people across the UK and I hope we can all learn something about some of the toughest problems, which touch us all one way or another. I promise there’ll be some laughs, too.” Richard Park, group executive director and director of broadcasting here at Global, said: “It’s testament to LBC’s national status that we’ve secured a presenter of Shelagh’s calibre as we start what will be an exciting election year for the station. Her warmth and wealth of experience will be a great addition to our powerful 2015 line-up.” LBC will also be making changes to its weekend schedule. Beverley Turner will join the station to present a new Sunday morning programme from 10am until 12pm.

LBC’s multi award winning reporter Tom Swarbrick will be the new presenter of Sunday afternoons between 3pm and 6pm. LBC broadcasts across the UK on DAB digital radio, at lbc.co.uk, on the LBC app and in London on 97.3 FM. We’re pleased to say that we have the four most popular commercial radio networks across the UK with Heart, Capital, Classic FM and Smooth. London’s Capital Breakfast Show with award-winning duo Dave Berry & Lisa Snowdon holds the fiercely contested London no. 1 spot with more listeners (941,000) than any other commercial radio show in the capital. The Heart network remains the country’s no.

Classic FM now reaches a huge 5.6m (5.2m last quarter) adding more than 370,000 listeners in the last three months of 2014 with new shows from Katherine Jenkins and Alexander Armstrong. The Smooth network has recorded its highest figures ever growing reach, share and hours, with 4.8m listeners – up more than 100,000 listeners in the last quarter. Smooth London is also up on all measures (reach, share and hours) and now has 760,000 listeners (from 742,000 in the last quarter). Ashley Tabor, founder & executive president here at Global, said: “I’m so proud that the Capital Breakfast Show with Dave & Lisa remains no.

1 in London with the most listeners – leading breakfast in the hugely competitive London market is a big achievement. I’m delighted that with Heart, Capital, Classic FM and Smooth we have the four most popular commercial radio networks across the country. This is testament to all the hard work of everyone at Global.” Richard Park, group executive director and director of broadcasting here at Global, said: “This is a great result for Global with Heart cementing its position as the most popular radio brand across the country and Smooth recording its highest ever numbers with gains in all measures.

We have a stellar line up of presenters at Global and it’s good to see them proving so popular with our listeners. With new shows from Katherine Jenkins and Alexander Armstrong, Classic FM enjoyed a hugely successful quarter with its audience now at 5.6 million.” Source: RAJAR / Ipsos-MORI / RSMB, period ending 14 December 2014.

LBC is putting them at the heart of the debate and I’m delighted that some of Britain’s leading female politicians have taken up the challenge.” Harman said: “The election is important for women as well as men. “Women’s voices need to be heard in this election and this LBC women political leaders debate will be a big part of that.” Morgan said: “Nine million women didn’t vote at the last election. I hope the four of us can use this debate to persuade them that voting can change things.” Featherstone said: “The Lib Dems have made a real difference to women’s lives and I look forward to being quizzed on what we have achieved.” Evans said: “It’s brilliant that LBC are holding this debate for women political leaders. LBC has turbo-charged its political programming in the run up to May 7th to include a daily ‘Election Call’ with senior politicians where listeners can question them on their policies and pledges. The Classic FM Hall of Fame 2015, now in its 20th year, attracted 200,000 votes. The popularity of orchestral music used in video games surged with 12 pieces (up from eight last year) in the top 300, including two in the top 20. Classic FM has played video game soundtracks regularly for the past two years, establishing a new audience for this musical genre and engaging with a younger audience.

The music for the Final Fantasy series, written by Japanese composer Nobuo Uematsu, has remained the highest video game music entry at number nine, while The Elder Scrolls, composed by BAFTA award-winner Jeremy Soule, has climbed six places to number 11. Yoko Shimomura has secured the highest ever entry for a female composer with Kingdom Hearts at number 30, and British composer Fiona Bennett has three pieces in the chart with A Lad and A Lass, Tempus Fugit and The Landscape.

This year’s chart of the most popular classical works notably features a range of living composers including Ola Gjeilo, Morten Lauridsen and Ludovico Einaudi, all of whom have new entries in the chart. In 2015 there are more living composers with new entries in the chart than any other year.

The core repertoire of timeless classics has remained strong as listeners continue to vote for old favourites. With 19 entries overall, Mozart achieved more chart positions than any other composer in the Classic FM Hall of Fame 2015. Beethoven came a close second in the countdown with 16 appearances. Classic FM’s John Suchet said: “Twenty years after the very first Classic FM Hall of Fame countdown, I’m delighted that we’ve attracted so many votes for our chart. What I find truly exciting is the continued increase in a younger audience for classical music – I didn’t expect to be thanking the video game industry for introducing the genre to a new generation of people, but it’s wonderful.” The Classic FM Hall of Fame has generated more votes than any previous years with 64,000 people casting almost 200,000 votes. This year’s chart features a diverse range of pieces with the emergence of 21st century composers as well as old favourites from classical music’s most famous names, including Mozart, Beethoven and Tchaikovsky. Global Entertainment, the content creation arm of Global, today announced the acquisition of a significant strategic stake in Broadwick Live. Broadwick Live stages music festivals around the world. The company has created internationally renowned festivals including Snowbombing and Festival No.6 and branded music events such as the hugely successful Bacardi Triangle. The deal is Global Entertainment’s first UK acquisition. Broadwick Live will operate independently, working closely with Global Live, the live touring and festival promotion arm of Global Entertainment launched earlier this year.

The move signals the next stage for Global Entertainment’s live event offering. “When Ashley Tabor and I decided to build a live entertainment company as part of Global Entertainment, we always planned to expand into the festival and event space as part of our strategy which included one-off events like the Rolling Stones at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and world tours for our proprietary content partners and third party superstar talent,” said Randy Phillips, CEO of Global Entertainment. “The inventiveness, creativity, and business savvy of Broadwick Live are the perfect complement to the growth of Global Live’s worldwide business model.” Sam Bush, director of Global Live, said: “Broadwick Live is an impressive company with a management team who share our ambitions. Gareth and the team at Broadwick Live have created a collection of festivals and branded events that have won all the major awards and are unlike anything else in the festival space. With their vision, expertise and investment, we will be able to co-create incredible new events and experiences, and extend our existing portfolio at home in the UK and internationally.” •. Classic FM has appointed the multi-award winning Debbie Wiseman MBE, Britain’s leading female composer for film and television, as its new Composer in Residence.

Wiseman’s first commission for Classic FM is a work entitled The Musical Zodiac, a twelve-movement suite inspired by characteristics of the astrological signs. From Pisces to Aquarius, every piece will reflect the personality and unique quality of each sign.

The work will be released on the Classic FM label in September 2016. Throughout the year, Wiseman will also be a regular guest on Charlotte Green’s Culture Club on Classic FM, as she takes the station’s 5.6 million listeners on the journey of the composition with her. Having written more than 200 film and television scores, Debbie Wiseman is one of the UK’s most successful composers. Her numerous film credits include Tom and Viv, which was nominated for two Academy Awards, Haunted and Wilde. She has written a host of popular scores for television such as Warriors, Judge John Deed, A Poet in New York, Father Brown and most recently, Wolf Hall, the soundtrack to which entered the Classic FM Chart at number one.

Classic FM’s inaugural Composer in Residence was Joby Talbot, who was appointed to the role in 2004. He was succeeded by Patrick Hawes and, from 2008 until the end of 2014, the position was held by Howard Goodall. Classic FM’s Managing Editor Sam Jackson said, “We have had the fortune of working with three brilliant Composers in Residence at Classic FM and I’m delighted that Debbie Wiseman has now agreed to take on this exciting position. I’m confident that the new work we’ve commissioned Debbie to write will be hugely popular with our audience and the whole team is looking forward to working with her.” Continued Debbie Wiseman said, “I am thrilled to be Classic FM’s new Composer in Residence, but also to be working on a new album project is especially exciting. The idea of writing The Musical Zodiac presented a wonderful opportunity to create music inspired by the individual characteristics of each star sign. I hope that people might even recognise their own personality traits within the movement that is dedicated to their sign!

It will be a huge honour to record the album and bring the music to life next year.” Classic FM is available across the UK on 100-102 FM, DAB digital radio, at classicfm.com and on the Classic FM app. Ministry of Sound is the 140th publisher to join Dax, the Digital Audio Exchange developed by us here at Global, the media and entertainment company. We are returning to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival to host a second year of EdFest studio sessions. Our creative team will run the sessions from a pop-up studio in the heart of Edinburgh, giving brands and agencies the opportunity to produce ad demos using the festival’s established and emerging talent. In 2014, unprecedented demand for the studio sessions saw the Global creative team develop more than 60 radio ads for 23 brands.

This year, the team will produce demos for more than 70 brands including John Lewis, Thomson, BT and KFC over 10 days. The EdFest sessions use the creative atmosphere and talent available at the biggest arts festival in the world, encouraging both agencies and artists to have fun with sound. This year’s sessions will showcase the role that audio plays in building brands.

As part of this, and for the first time at EdFest, Global will be integrating its use of binaural recording in the ads, allowing for even greater creative freedom. Stuart Mays, director of commercial strategy here at Global, said: “Last year’s EdFest programme was incredibly well received by both clients and agencies. We produced entertaining, often amusing, and in many cases very distinctive content that really pushed the boundaries of the creative process. The demand for sessions this year has been huge so we’re excited to return to Edinburgh and can’t wait to hear the demos.” Global’s EdFest studio sessions is running from Thursday August 13 to Sunday August 23. Today, we have announced a pioneering new technology developed by Global, that will now allow drivers radios to automatically switch between different local radio stations that are part of the same network as they travel around the country. The technology has been developed and implemented by Global and Arqiva so that both digital radio receivers and FM receivers automatically transition between different Heart, Capital and Smooth local stations, picking up the best DAB or FM signal available, and automatically switching over to the next transmission area as a driver passes from one area to the next. The innovation means drivers will no longer have to manually switch between networked stations as they drive around the country.

Over the past year, we’ve worked with Arqiva, the broadcast infrastructure company, Ofcom and multiplex owners, to create the technology. Ashley Tabor, founder & executive president of Global said: “When I came into the UK radio industry in 2007 I was told this sort of service switching was already up and running, but it wasn’t truly working. Last year I set our engineers the challenge to once and for all solve this issue and I’m very proud that has become a reality today. This innovation is a huge step forward in ensuring drivers have a great listening experience right across the UK. We are continuing to invest in digital radio with new stations, brand expansion and transmission coverage expansion. This is a further demonstration of our commitment.” •. After a summer of speculation with more gossip than there was sunshine, it’s finally here!

Today we have put an end to all the rumours as we confirmed the launch of the most hotly anticipated new radio station across the UK in recent years, and the long-awaited return of one of radio’s biggest personalities. On Monday September 21st Chris Moyles will be back on the air from 06.30-10.00 a.m. To give the nation its first taste of Radio X, a brand new national radio station playing the best fresh rock and guitar-based music across the UK. We can also confirm household name presenters Vernon Kay on mid-mornings, Johnny Vaughan at drive and Kaiser Chiefs’ front man Ricky Wilson at weekends will join the all star line-up. This concludes several months of guesswork from the media industry, with more big names mooted than there have been rumours about Oasis getting back together. Together with Chris Moyles at breakfast, they will inject a huge dose of personality into the new station.

The station will replace XFM and add significant firepower to Global’s portfolio of radio brands giving the group, and the commercial radio sector, the first truly male-focused, fully national music and entertainment brand for 25-44 year olds. Ashley Tabor, founder & executive president here at Global, said: “I’ve had a great summer hearing some of the funniest rumors I’ve ever heard.

I’m pleased we can now confirm the industry’s best kept secret, we are indeed launching a brand new national radio station on Monday September 21st. Radio X will focus on fresh rock and guitar-based music alongside huge personalities. And personalities don’t get any bigger than Chris Moyles! Chris is a broadcasting genius and as Global makes a multi-million pound investment in launching Radio X on a national scale, I couldn’t think of anyone better to host the station’s breakfast show. Along with Vernon Kay, Johnny Vaughan and Ricky Wilson, the UK has never had a radio station like Radio X before.” Richard Park, group executive director & director of broadcasting here at Global, said: “With new acts like Hozier and James Bay enjoying phenomenal success, and iconic rock acts Muse, the Foo Fighters and the Arctic Monkeys returning with great albums, there couldn’t be a better time to launch Radio X. We know there’s a gap in the market and a massive audience across the UK waiting for a radio station that caters for them – Radio X will be bold and uncompromising in its promise to deliver music and entertainment for this audience. I’m delighted the time has finally arrived for us to launch this great new station.” Stephen Miron, group CEO at Global, said: “I’m proud that Global is launching Radio X today and that we’re able to bring a completely new national music and entertainment property for 25-44 year old men to the market.

Radio X will be a one of its kind radio station and the first time the commercial sector has catered for this hard to reach group. We’re excited about working with our clients and agency partners to connect them with this audience through Radio X. Our investment in a national platform, an unbeatable talent line-up and a heavyweight advertising campaign speaks to our ambition for the brand.” Vernon Kay, Radio X mid-morning presenter, said: “I’m excited to be getting back on the radio. The launch of Radio X is the dawn of a new era in radio. There is a real buzz around the station because we know that this is going to be a lot of fun It’s going to be a real honour to have Chris Moyles as my warm-up, bringing his unique style of broadcasting back onto the radio waves.” Johnny Vaughan, Radio X drive time presenter, said: “They say there’s nothing better than that ‘new car’ smell. Well there is it’s the smell of a brand new drive time show on a brand new radio station being listened to in that brand new car! Great Britain needs great banter and I can’t wait to be back on air five days a week talking to people up and down the UK as we get them home with a bit of a laugh and some awesome music!” Ricky Wilson, Radio X weekend presenter, said: “XFM was the first station to invite me and the band down for a session, way before we were even called Kaiser Chiefs.

They were right there for us and many, many other bands from the very beginning of their histories, through all incarnations, career ups and downs, break ups and come backs. Even talking recently to other bands and musicians about the station, everyone has very fond things to say about it so it makes me both proud and excited to be right there at the beginning of a new chapter as Radio X launches as the new rebel of the airwaves.” Radio X will be home to the world’s freshest rock and guitar-based music playing the biggest songs from these genres. Regulars on the playlist will include Florence & The Machine, Mumford & Sons, Blur, Arctic Monkeys, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, The Maccabees, Radiohead, Nirvana, The Smiths, Royal Blood, Kasabian, Catfish & The Bottlemen and Kings of Leon. Radio X will champion new music, taking over from XFM, which has been instrumental in breaking acts including Royal Blood, The xx, Arctic Monkeys, Jamie T, Kings of Leon, The Killers, Everything Everything and Biffy Clyro.

Radio X will launch right across the UK on Monday September 21st at 06.30 a.m. With a new multi-million pound national advertising campaign. In the coming months, Chris Moyles will hit the road with some of his favourite bands and artists to bring listeners across the country a series of exclusive live music events.

The strapline for the brand new Radio X is ‘Get into the Music’. Following a hugely successful partnership in 2013, Coca-Cola will once again partner with us for Capital’s flagship Christmas event as part of the Coca-Cola Christmas campaign. The partnership will feature all four Coca-Cola variants and will run across all Capital touch points including Capital FM, Capital TV and all its digital platforms. The partnership forms part of Coca-Cola’s annual Christmas campaign, which includes its highly anticipated Christmas Truck Tour and much-loved classic ‘Holidays are Coming!’ advert. Coca-Cola’s famous truck has been a Christmas icon since it first launched on TV in November 1995. Since then, it has been a regular feature of festive TV in more than 100 countries across the world. In 2014, the Coca-Cola Christmas Truck made 45 stops between late November and Christmas. This year, Capital will also be giving away tickets to Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball and Capital presenters will join the truck at a number of locations, along the tour*, to add to the festive fun.

Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball is always a sell-out event. As part of the sponsorship, Coca-Cola will also be giving away sought after tickets through a number of bespoke competitions. Mike Gordon, chief commercial officer at Global said: “Coca-Cola is synonymous with Christmas. To have Coca-Cola on board reinforces the reputation of Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball as one of the biggest events in the Christmas calendar.

We’re looking forward to bringing our biggest Jingle Bell Ball yet to Capital listeners.” Bobby Brittain, managing director at Coca-Cola Great Britain said: “As part of our plans for Christmas this year, we are delighted to once again be partnering with Global on Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball. At Coca-Cola, we have a rich heritage of celebrating the magic of Christmas. Ever since our first Christmas advert launched in the 1920s, we have continued to create excitement around the festive season.

Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball allows us to do just that with some of the world’s leading music artists and their adoring fans.” Now in its eighth year, Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball is always a sell-out event. Last year more than 30,000 people flocked to London’s O2 Arena to see performances from global superstars including Taylor Swift, Take That, 5 Seconds Of Summer, Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran. #CapitalJBB #HolidaysAreComing *Dates for the 2015 Coca-Cola Christmas Truck Tour are yet to be announced. Just over a year after it launched in the UK, we have announced that we will expand Dax, the digital audio exchange, into 18 countries across Europe offering advertisers a way to reach a highly engaged audience of 60 million from early 2016. This move means that for the first time advertisers will be able to access a huge number of people consuming digital radio, music streaming services and podcasts in Europe making Dax the single biggest audio platform across the continent, with both direct and programmatic buying options.

Speaking at the IAB Upfronts today (Monday), Oliver Deane, commercial digital director at Global, made the announcement in front of an audience of more than 300 people at London’s Ministry of Sound. Deane cited growth in listening and demand from clients as the reason for the move, which will see Global set up its first international sales team, grow its digital account management team and recruit a network of creatives to develop pan-European campaigns.

Deane said there was a high level of interest from existing Dax clients in running campaigns across the major European markets. The network of creatives will write and produce ads in different languages for clients, reporting into Jo McCrostie, creative director at Global. Leading local and pan-European music streaming services, digital radio and podcasting platforms have already signed up to Dax enabling them to sell their inventory through the groundbreaking advertising exchange across Europe from early 2016.

Listening to digital audio is now a large part of the media day for European consumers with more than 150 million people in the top 10 European markets listening to digital audio every month. Mike Gordon, chief commercial officer at Global, said: “We created Dax to give brands access to the digital audio market in one single buy. The growth we’ve experienced in just over a year has defied our expectations. In that period, we’ve signed up more than 140 digital audio publishers, 250 forward-thinking advertisers, grown our audience from zero to seven million and demonstrated the power of digital audio to deliver brand messages and help drive traffic to brands’ websites and apps through research among 400,000 smartphone users.” Gordon continued: “In the US digital audio is a multi-billion dollar industry with Pandora leading the market. Our vision for Dax is to recreate the US market across Europe. Dax will continue to expand and transform the market, allowing new digital audio services to thrive by generating ad revenue for them, and giving advertisers access to highly engaged audiences who are receptive to hearing from brands.

Dax allows brands to deliver messages to a highly engaged audience while they stream digital audio at crucial moments throughout the day.” In the UK, Dax already gives advertisers a single buying point for more than 140 digital audio platforms including Rdio, Musicovery, audioBoom, Ministry of Sound, Global’s radio brands including Capital, Heart, Radio X, Classic FM and LBC, and Bauer’s Absolute Radio network. Global created and launched Dax in June 2014. We have announced today (Thursday) that construction has started on the Global Academy, our university technical college (UTC), which will open in September 2016. The Global Academy will provide academic and vocational training for 800 students who want to work in the broadcast and digital media industry. The curriculum will get a practical makeover ensuring the 14-18 year olds are not only prepared for their GCSEs and A-Levels but also for a career in the fast-growing broadcast and digital media industries. At the same time, students at the Global Academy will learn the technical skills needed to work in the broadcast and digital media industry preparing them for jobs in radio and TV production, broadcast engineering, app and web development, script writing, event management, radio production, broadcast journalism and many more.

Ashley Tabor, Global’s founder & executive president, came up with the idea of the Global Academy. He said: “There is a real shortage of young people coming out of school with the skills needed to work in the broadcast and digital media industries. The Global Academy will give our students the practical skills they need to hit the ground running as well as teaching them core subjects in a practical way. We want to give young people from diverse backgrounds the opportunity to get a foot on the ladder in the media industry and connect the dots between their core GCSEs and A-Levels, and practical life skills needed in the real world.” Opening in September 2016, the Global Academy will be on the site of the Old Vinyl Factory in Hayes in the London borough of Hillingdon. It will house extensive recording and filming studio space, a theatre and a four-storey atrium. Students will be taught a mainstream key stage 4 and key stage 5 curriculum together with diplomas in broadcast and digital media. These will be awarded by the Global Academy’s university partner, University of the Arts London (UAL), through its Ofqual-approved awarding organisation, UAL Awarding Body.

With funding from the Department for Education, 50 per cent of places will be open to students who live in the local catchment area (a five mile radius) with the remaining 50 per cent open to students from across the UK. For more information and to find out about open days click.

One of Britain’s best known politicians, Alex Salmond, is to host his own weekly show on LBC, Britain’s only commercial news talk radio station.

Starting on January 13th, The Alex Salmond Phone-in on LBC will be live every Wednesday from 4pm to 4.30pm during Iain Dale’s show. No topic will be off limits as LBC listeners will have the opportunity to call, text, tweet or email the former First Minister of Scotland and leader of the Scottish National Party directly. Our station, LBC is the home of political debate and the only station to give its listeners unmediated access to high profile political figures. LBC made history when it introduced ‘Call Clegg’ in 2013 by becoming the world’s first radio station where the public could challenge a senior member of government live on air every week. This has continued with the current ‘Ask Boris’ every month with the Mayor of London Boris Johnson and the fortnightly ‘Phone Farage’ with the UK Independence Party leader Nigel Farage. Alex Salmond said: “It is a great pleasure to be joining LBC for my first ever radio show. When I was First Minister of Scotland, there were times when I had to bite my tongue.

However, now unburdened from office, I can shoot straight from the hip. I am looking forward to discussing all of the issues and taking calls from every corner of these islands. It’s going to be honest, straight talking with a bit of fun thrown in!” James Rea, LBC’s Managing Editor, said: “LBC is the only national radio station which puts its listeners firmly in the driving seat, giving them direct access to senior politicians and people in authority. Alex Salmond is one of the most outspoken and straight-talking politicians with in-depth knowledge of Westminster and Scottish politics and we look forward to him joining our powerful line up this year.” LBC is available across the UK on digital radio, at lbc.co.uk, on the LBC app and in London on 97.3 FM.

107.6 Capital FM launched today with a bang as a host of guest stars descended on the Capital Liverpool Breakfast Show to celebrate the launch of the UK’s number 1 hit music station in Liverpool. Ellie Goulding dropped into the Capital Liverpool studios in the heart of Liverpool ONE this morning to talk to Capital breakfast hosts Adam, Gemma and Imogen and officially open the studio by sounding a foghorn and cutting Adam’s hair! Ellie gave away tickets to her show at the Liverpool Echo Arena on March 10th 2016 and a chance to meet her at the show. Answering a question about whether she would choose to go into the Big Brother House or do a bushtucker trial on I’m a Celebrity, Ellie said: “I think I would rather do a bushtucker trial although they do eat live spiders and I am not really sure if I am down with that but I would like to go into the Big Brother House for a day and just see what it is like. I have watched it since I was really young. I remember the first ever series. It has got a bit weird now but I think I would like to do a day as I am not sure I could survive any more than that.” Fresh from LA where they have been filming the new series of Saturday Night Takeaway, the nation’s favourite TV duo, Ant & Dec also joined the brand new Capital Liverpool Breakfast Show.

When Dec revealed they had done an undercover prank on James Corden in LA, Ant said: “What the hell. I am not even sure he was meant to tell you that.” Adam, Gemma and Imogen went to meet the boys at the Britain’s Got Talent auditions at the Liverpool Echo Arena and asked if they thought they could find a winner for Britain’s Got Talent from Liverpool. Dec said: “I don’t see why not. You have got everything here, you’ve got a great music background and a great tradition of music so I think we will get some good grooners here and some good singers.” They also talked about how excited they are to be hosting the BRITs for a second year and Dec said: “We weren’t supposed to be.

We did it last year and we always said we would do it for one year but we had quite a nice time so we have decided to do it again this is definitely the last time we are going to do it.” Hollyoaks favourite and I’m a Celebrity contestant Jorgie Porter also dropped into the Capital Liverpool studios to welcome 107.6 Capital FM and play the ‘scouse tucker challenge’, which saw her try three culinary delights prepared by Imogen. After the challenge in which Jorgie sampled scouse, a cheese and tomato omelette and a chocolate brownie, Jorgie gave a frank verdict on Imogen’s cooking skills telling the Capital Liverpool Breakfast Show host: “There is no potential there and I don’t think you should make any meals ever.” Jorgie confused Imogen’s cheese and tomato omelette for sausage and mistook her scouse for ostrich saying, “it smells like a bad canteen”.

After trying the brownie, she gave her assessment, “it’s not chewable that was the worst brownie I’ve ever had”. The Vamps also joined Adam, Gemma and Imogen to celebrate the launch and will be back on Tuesday (January 19th) as well as Nathan Sykes. Craig David, Fleur East and Shawn Mendes all called in to wish Adam, Gemma and Imogen luck for their new show on Capital Liverpool. The fun is set to continue with more surprise guests dropping in to chat to the presenters. Capital Liverpool will play the biggest hits from the hottest hit music artists of the moment. Across the country, Capital is the UK’s number 1 hit music brand reaching more than eight million people every week.

Adam, Gemma and Imogen present the Capital Liverpool Breakfast Show Monday to Friday from 6-10am and Graeme Smith and Sarah Story host Capital Liverpool Drivetime from 4pm every week day. Every Thursday and Friday at 6pm, Graeme and Sarah will hand over to Anton Powers who will get the Liverpool weekend started early with the hottest tracks and some exclusive remixes while Baz Todd will bring the biggest tunes to Liverpool every weekend. Today (Monday) we have unveiled a heavyweight advertising campaign to launch 107.6 Capital Liverpool. The campaign, specifically created for Capital Liverpool will span TV, press, outdoor, social and experiential introducing the people of Liverpool to the city’s brand new hit music station, which reaches eight million listeners every week across the UK.

A brand new TV campaign will run on ITV Granada, in peak programming such as the National Television Awards, Take Me Out and Coronation Street as well as across YouTube and Facebook. The ad features some of the world’s biggest superstars including Justin Bieber, Little Mix, Coldplay’s Chris Martin, Jason Derulo and Ariana Grande. The high impact outdoor will span digital, underground and rail sites with the city’s new hit music station taking over sites including the iconic Liverpool Media Wall and the Holiday Inn Liverpool City Centre. The press advertising includes a cover wrap of today’s edition of the Liverpool Echo and further advertising in the Liverpool Echo and Metro North West.

Adam Johnson, director of marketing here at Global, said: “Launching 107.6 Capital is a huge milestone and something we’ve wanted to do for a very long time. The scale of this new marketing campaign, and the artists that feature in it, reflect the importance we place on making Capital part of the fabric of the city of Liverpool and its incredible musical and cultural scene. The advertising will ensure that wherever you are in Liverpool you will definitely know about the city’s new hit music station.” As part of the launch, Capital is bringing its very own glam squad to Liverpool on the ‘Capital Glam Bus’, which will offer free beauty treatments for Capital Liverpool listeners. It will be in Williamson Square from 12-6pm on Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd January.

The bus will move to Liverpool ONE the following week, where it will be stationed for a further three weekends from 12-7pm. Ever wished you could control the song you’re listening to on the radio? Today we announced the creation of a brand new app. After years in development, My Capital Xtra is the groundbreaking new app created by Global, which offers a completely new listening experience. If you’ve ever been listening to the radio and wanted to take control of the songs that your favourite station is playing, now you can. By combining what’s great about radio’s personal connection with the listener and radio’s brand focus, with the simplicity of streaming, the new app is a first that has never existed before.

The product takes the best elements of the radio brand, in this case, including the high production values and content from the station’s DJs discussing tracks, artists and the latest music news and gossip, and combines it with the ability for you to control what music you hear. The app serves up music in the genre of the radio brand in question, and the user can then simply listen as a normal radio listen, or swipe the song now playing to move onto the next one. The user can see the next eight records playing and remove them before they even play, and there is no limit to the number of times a user can skip. In a world first for radio, some of the speech content is also interactive – with presenters inviting listeners to tap the screen during links to view the content being discussed, providing a whole new interaction and dimension to listening to, and discovering new music. James Hickman, director of digital at Global, said: “This app is the first of its kind to combine the best of radio with the best of streaming. One Voice features the last never-before-heard recordings of Aled as a boy presenter Aled Jones MBE is to release a brand new duet album called One Voice, featuring the last ever recordings of him as a boy, which have never been heard before.

One Voice is a unique concept as Aled duets with himself – man and boy. Released on Friday 1st April on the Classic FM label, the album of timeless folk songs features a stunning mix of musical styles, from the classical world of Handel, Purcell, Britten and Vaughan Williams to the flavours of Celtic Irish and Welsh folk music. The original recordings of Aled as a boy were rediscovered following a chance conversation with his parents at their home in North Wales. Aled explained: “We were sitting around the kitchen table one day, when my mum suddenly announced that there was an album of folk songs of mine that had never been released. When she asked my dad where it was, he said that the tape of recordings was in the airing cupboard, to keep it dry, sandwiched in-between my old pants and socks! At the time, my voice had broken, so the record company decided not to release it. I didn’t even remember recording the album, but when I listened to it at my parents’ house, I felt like a proud uncle or father.

From that came the idea to release the album of duets, featuring my voice as a boy and now as an adult.” One Voice features Aled’s duets of classic folk songs such as Lark in the Clear Air and Danny Boy, as well as Welsh favourites All Through the Night and David of the White Rock. Aled has also recorded three new solo tracks as a man including Come To Me Soothing Sleep by Handel and The Ash Grove.

Aled said: “Listening back to the original recordings, it’s the album that I’m most proud of doing as a boy, because I’m probably singing the best I ever did. It just seemed like the perfect idea to create the duet album. In many ways, it feels like I’m coming full circle and I can put the early part of my life to bed.

To my knowledge, the concept for One Voice – the same person but with two different voices – is unique and no one else has ever done it before.” Sam Jackson, managing editor of Classic FM, said: “When Aled came to us with the idea for One Voice, we jumped at the chance of working with him. The recording from three decades ago is an instant reminder of just how beautiful the voice of the young Aled was, and to hear it blended with his modern-day sound is something really special.” The first live concert performance of some of the songs from One Voice will be at Classic FM Live on Tuesday 5th April at London’s Royal Albert Hall. This will be followed by a 22-date cathedral tour starting in Norwich on Friday 6th May and finishing in Aled’s hometown cathedral in Bangor on Saturday 2nd July.

One Voice will be released on Friday 1st April 2016 on the Classic FM label. For more information, please visit:.

Just six months on from the brand new station’s launch in September 2015, Radio X listeners cast more than 50,000 votes. The top four tracks are all by Oasis revealing British music fans’ unflinching loyalty to one of the world’s biggest bands of all time.

With eight number one singles, eight number one albums and an estimated 70 million records sold, Oasis’ split in 2009 has done little to dent the band’s legendary status. Northern bands dominated the results with tracks by Oasis, The Stone Roses, Arctic Monkeys and The Verve making up the majority of the top 10. The Verve’s ‘Bittersweet Symphony’ came in at number eight boosted by the popularity of Radio X’s launch campaign, which parodies the original video. David Bowie’s incomparable contribution was confirmed with iconic tracks ‘Heroes’ and ‘Life on Mars?’ coming seventh and eighth. The Rolling Stones rounded off the top 10 with the 1969 hit ‘Gimme Shelter’. The UK’s top artists and bands had their say in the poll, with Wolf Alice nominating winning track ‘Wonderwall’, and Jack Garratt choosing Bowie’s ‘Let’s Dance’ as his ultimate British record. Radio X also revealed how its presenters voted in the poll with Chris Moyles backing Coldplay’s ‘Viva la Vida’, John Kennedy supporting New Order’s ‘Blue Monday’ and Dan O’Connell voting for The Beatles’ ‘A Day in the Life’.

John Robins supported ‘Common People’ by Pulp, and Vernon Kay backed Sex Pistol’s ‘Anarchy in the UK’. Chris Baughen, managing editor of Radio X, said: “Just six months on from the launch of Radio X, we asked our listeners to vote for their favourite records in the first ever Best of British poll, and they have spoken in their thousands. In fact we received more than 50,000 votes in just over two weeks showing how much our listeners love British music.” Radio X counted down the results throughout the day on Easter Monday with Vernon Kay revealing the top 10 this evening (Monday 28th March). THE WORLD’S BIGGEST ANNUAL SURVEY OF CLASSICAL MUSIC BEETHOVEN BEATS MOZART FOR FIRST TIME IN CHART’S HISTORY TO BECOME MOST POPULAR COMPOSER JOHN WILLIAMS’ STAR WARS REACHES ITS HIGHEST EVER POSITION MORE THAN 170,000 VOTES CAST IN TOTAL For the first time in the history of the Classic FM Hall of Fame, the world’s biggest annual poll of classical music tastes, Beethoven has beaten his composer rival Mozart to be crowned the most popular composer.

Beethoven achieved 19 pieces in this year’s chart, including three in the top 10 alone, compared with 16 pieces for Mozart. While the two composers reached joint first place in 2012 and 2013, Beethoven has never secured more pieces in the top 300 than his rival. Now in its 21st year, more than 170,000 votes were cast in the 2016 Classic FM Hall of Fame. Following the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens last year, John Williams’ iconic theme has reached its highest ever position, jumping 38 places to reach number 44. Star Wars has beaten Williams’ 5 other entries in the 2016 chart, including Schindler’s List, Jurassic Park and Raiders of the Lost Ark, confirming his place as the most popular living composer. Howard Shore’s The Lord of the Rings remains the nation’s favourite film score at number 28.

Sir Karl Jenkins has been voted the UK’s most popular living composer, with 3 pieces in the Classic FM Hall of Fame. Jenkins’ The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace is the highest placed piece by a living composer, at number 15. The highest new entry is the video game score Shenmue by Koshiro & Iuchi. While the past few years have seen a surge in popularity of orchestral music used in video games, there are 11 pieces in the 2016 chart, compared to 12 in 2015. The music for the Final Fantasy series, written by Japanese composer Nobuo Uematsu, has dropped out of the top 10, falling 8 places to number 17.

This year’s chart features a diverse range of classical music from well-known living composers such as Ludovico Einaudi to timeless favourites, which remain as popular as ever. For the seventh time since 1996 and reclaiming last year’s title, Ralph Vaughan Williams’ The Lark Ascending has been voted the nation’s favourite piece of classical music, followed by Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No.2. Classic FM presenter John Suchet said: “Ever since we launched the first Classic FM Hall of Fame in 1996, Mozart has taken precedence – that is until now. I think that Beethoven’s new position as the most popular composer has to do with films such as the Oscar-winning The King’s Speech, which famously used his 7th Symphony, but his music is so universally popular. If you land on any street in any town in any country of the world, someone will know Beethoven’s work.” The full top 300 list is published online at ww.
