I just bought a new computer that came with Windows 8.1 and bought Studio 16 to install on it but it won't install. I see there's been a problem with Windows 8.1 and pinnacle but all the help topics seem to be geared towards people who upgraded to windows 8.1 and already were using studio 16 on their computer.

I wasn't able to install the software so went searching for help and found a windows patch and the studio 16 patch but I couldn't use either since I didn't have any studio software on my computer. I tried installing the software using a compatible version and it installed, but I then got errors saying new software had been issued and I needed to uninstall and reinstall the software. I thought I'd try installing the patches first but that didn't help.

I haven't tried to uninstall anything because I don't know how to reinstall the software so it will work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. What happens when you install the patch? Do you get any error messages? It looks like Pinnacle Studio 16 is not compatible with Windows 8.1.

You may have to install Pinnacle Studio 17. You can also try to install the as provided in the article and see if it helps. You may install the patch in clean boot state. I'm sorry to say that I never was able to get 16 to work on my 8.1 computer. When I installed it, it said I got 30 days of free support so I had contacted Corel for some help. I bought this around Christmas time when apparently everyone was on vacation so they were very slow about getting back to me. They asked me a few questions and never gave me a solution until just about a week ago, and their solution still didn't work.

They actually sent me the program but when I tried to install it, it did nothing. I am now waiting to see if they have any other solutions. I told them I'm actually trying to sell the program because it seems to be useless. Before you buy 17, have you ever looked at Sony Movie studio? I bought version 12 for my 8.1 computer but I've used earlier versions and actually find it easier to use.

I finally heard back from Corel yesterday and they suggested I turn off my AV and try installing it again. This time it worked as far as getting it installed and being able to open it but I'm still not sure if the program works. The Corel rep gave me a serial number to use because I told him I had tried to return the product after I couldn't get it installed and was only able to exchange it for another box. I didn't open it since I figured it wouldn't work so I've actually been trying to sell it. I still haven't opened the box and right now I need to find out if I need to in order to get the serial number associated with the software I purchased because importing and viewing my videos doesn't seem to be working. I got a message saying I needed to Activate H264 by purchasing an Activation Key.

Not quite sure what that's all about. I don't want to spend any more money on this software if it ends up not working.
